Balgowlah was one of the first 10 villages establshed in
the County of Cumberland in the 1830's and Balgowlah Heights was the name given
to the area to the south extending to Dobroyd Head and Clontarf.
It was a farming area which supplied produce for the growing
colony with huge tracts of virgin bushland and a large creek .
In the late 1940's the bushland tract fronting
Condamine Street, its trees and its native wilderness had been levelled to make
way for the post war wave of housing develpment.
The area today boasts some of the penisula's most lavish
homes.
