Welcome to Balgowlah Online

The name Balgowlah (or Bulgowlah) is an Aboriginal word meaning "north harbour" and it is this definition that we choose to use for this website. We are providing a guide to the postcodes of 2092, 2093 and 2094, which include the North Harbour suburbs of Balgowlah, Seaforth, Manly Vale, Fairlight, Balgowlah Heights, North Balgowlah and Clontarf.

Mention Balgowlah and most people bring to mind the pleasant village at the base of the Northern Beaches above Sydney. Often they do not realise that hidden away in the surrounding area are over 1500 businesses, beautiful scenic areas, and a surprising range of historical sites.

It is believed that Balgowlah was the original spot where Captain Arthur Phillip first saw a group of Aboriginal men on January 21 1788, whose masculine stance led to the naming of the area as Manly. The area now known as Balgowlah was shown as being called Manly in Captain Hunter's April 1788 map, however after a few years the name drifted up to its present position of what was then referred to as Collins Cove.

You can discover many new possibilities whether you are an inhabitant who wishes to support local commerce, a visitor from other parts of Sydney on a day out, or a welcome tourist.
